I started using my gifts for profit in 2007. I was 22 years old. I tried to be a pro athlete, but I failed at it. I tried to be a good college student so I could go into the corporate world, but I failed at that too. I tried to take shortcuts to fast money, but that wasn’t a smart idea. Nothing was working. One day I decided to look within. I wanted to do something that brought me peace and happiness. I wanted to do what I was good at. I wanted to make a living on my terms. So I decided to write my first book. I went through the process of learning how to build a business from scratch. I made mistake after mistake. I learned how to succeed the hard way. I wasted a lot of time and money. I didn’t have a mentor. I didn’t have a team. I didn’t have a lot of money to invest. I was using my college refund checks to fund my dreams. My wife pitched in and let me use some of her refund checks too. I was determined to find a way.
I started my first company, Soul Writers LLC, a publishing company, in 2009. I started using my gifts in every way possible. Then I started to learn how to use social media to help build my brand. I participated in every teleconference I could find. I watched webinars, read articles, listened to podcasts, and anything else I could find. After three years I finally started to make way. I learned how to pitch myself to the media. I landed on globally televised talk shows and news outlets. I landed countless radio interviews and magazine features. I learned how to expand my brand and create multiple streams of income using my natural gifts.
